Westchester Woman Wednesday: Meet Shawna Lubner

It’s December 20th and also our final Westchester Woman Wednesday of 2017.   I’ve decided to dedicate this post to my other half, Shawna Lubner.  It was nearly a year ago when we came up with this idea over a working lunch at the Scarsdale Metro Deli.  I felt there was no one better to highlight for our December #WestchesterWomanWednesday than Shawna!

Shawna is everything I am not.  She’s all business. She’s cerebral.  She’s methodical, focused and organized. (I’m the sometimes-way-too-emotional, creative, scattered multi-tasker.)  But we balance each other out and it’s our teamwork that makes Emma Westchester work!   Despite all of the differences, we share many similarities.  We actually wrote a post (way back in 2014) about how alike we realized that we are:  https://emmawestchester.com/about/are-you-a-mom-like-us/

It was this post that helped us develop our mission statement and narrow down our topics into the three that we love most:  eating, shopping and playing in and around Westchester and/or beyond.   We (well I) tend to stray sometimes, I admit, but our goal is to share what we think “moms like us” want to know about.   Our readers are “Shawnas” or “Erins” or anything in between;  A working mom or a stay at home mom, a chocolate chip cookie making mom or a take-out mom, a helicopter mom or a free-range mom– or a healthy balance of the many different styles all around.   Westchester is home to so many different types of moms and we hope that we can inform and share our wonderful discoveries with everyone.

So- I am off topic.  Back to Shawna.   She’s married to Frank and mom to Korben.  She works full time in sales but manages to find time for Emma Westchester. Shawna manages our books, handling invoices and expenses. Lucky for me, she’s great with the the back end of the website and is good at figuring out ways in which to work with businesses, often creating power point presentations for potential clients.  Some of her day job skills appear and it’s great because those are skills that I don’t have.  I will happily network and connect others, manage our social media accounts and get our posts up for the week.  So it works.

I am almost forgetting eat, shop and play.  Shawna does not like to cook.  So you’ll see most restaurant and dining out posts are hers. Favorite spots include City Perch in Dobbs Ferry and L’Inizio in Ardsley.  Because she loves Tex-Mex, she likes Yonkers Taco Project.  She’s not the shopper I am, but loves visiting LOLA in White Plains/Tuckahoe and Current Home in Scarsdale regularly.  Paper Source too!   The Lubner Family enjoys family travel, from ski trips to visiting relatives each year in Germany.   (Read about skiing in Whistler, on this fantastic travel site:  https://fifiandhop.com/2017/10/30/whistler-mountain-ski-vacation/ )

As we close out our books (and our posts) for 2017, I would be remiss if I did not highlight the “brains” behind Emma Westchester.   While many think that I’m “Emma” (I once was) the new and improved Emma wouldn’t be what it is without Shawna.  Having met working on another publication, our shared interests are what helped me get this blog to the professional level that it is today.   Better than anything business, is that she’s become a friend.  A great one at that.  If this blog ended tomorrow, I’d still have Shawna.

Looking forward to great things and meeting some new Westchester Woman Wednesday guests in 2018.   🙂
